Summer Projects

So things have been rather busy lately, and I haven’t had much of a chance to update the news section of the site until now. I’ll work backwords through time, starting with my most recent project…

Songfest 2008 Production Underway

No, this is not a photo from Songfest 2008. In other news, time travel still eludes humankind…

Believe it or not, production work for Songfest 2008 has been going on at a fairly frantic rate for several weeks now. I’ve been busy with theme work, production calendaring, and a boatload of administrative work. Despite the fact that the show’s run of performances is still 6 months away, I always have to be ready to “launch” the production year by the first couple weeks of each September- which means lots and lots of prep work in late summer.

Things have just gotten underway with this year’s show, and just this past week we released all of this year’s production information to this year’s performing groups. It’s too early to say how well things are coming along, as real production is just getting started, but it certainly doesn’t look like we’ll be having any shortage of performers.

Tickets won’t be on sale until February, but for those who want to put Songfest 2008 on their calendars, here are the dates:

SONGFEST 2008
Smothers Theatre
Pepperdine University
Malibu, California

Tuesday, March 18 - Friday, March 21

Saturday, March 22

Bye Bye for Bobo

I just recently delivered the score for a short film entitled Bye Bye for Bobo. I worked on this for several weeks, but am pleased with how it turned out. The film is in the final stages of post-production. Look for lots more info on this project in an upcoming post.

Patriots, Countrymen, Neighbors

Well, back in the early summer I wrote and submitted a conceptual music demo for a potential ABC sitcom being considered for further development. The bad news, for me, is that I never really heard about the music decisions for the project one way or another, though I do know that my demo wasn’t used in the show material that was put together this summer. The good news for you, as a result, is that I can post it here for your listening pleasure (or vehement criticism), since it’s still mine to do with as I please. It’s certainly not my life’s masterpiece or anything, but it’s fun nonetheless, and I thought you might find it worthy of a listen.

In a nutshell, the music is a blend of the patriotic and grandiose (think “West Wing”) and the “quirky” (think “Arrested Development”). This was interesting, in that I got to write a theme and then arrange it in each of those two highly-contrasting styles.
